  5. Steve – “one day…. i am going to grow wings….” I have played Let Down on a couple of other occasions… One I clearly remember, years ago… I was doing a Friday Theme Day on best lyrics of the 90s… Lots of people had wildly varying responses to that topic, of course… But I remember finishing up the hour that day with my own pick, which was Let Down… Maybe not technically the best lyrics, in terms of wordplay, narrative, sheer poetic force, etc…. BUT….. There are few other songs where the words actually heighten the music, which in turn heightens those words, which in turn heighten the music even more, etc…

I also played it recently on the 2pm txt siesta… As a Radiohead geek, I recognize that that song is not only phenomenal, but also that it holds a special significance for other Radiohead fans that only a handful of their songs do… And the fans all seem to converge on these few songs, the songs that are SO masterful in evoking a very authentic set of complex and real emotions, in just a matter of minutes… They are already set apart from all other bands, these songs are almost somehow set apart from Radiohead themselves, who may just have been messengers in these cases….

  6. jason jason… what an interesting list of songs…. the common thread that i can pick out seems to be a transcendence of some kind…. either to a lighter or darker side…. also a kind of subordination to each desperate feeling of the song… on their knees, crawling, slithering on a belly…..

Wish I coulda caught this in real time….
