But I’m finding that I am in the mood to do the obvious thing less and less nowadays… So I will put it out to you, in the form of 2 questions:

1. YOU WANT 311 FOR THE WHOLE 2PM HOUR TODAY? YES OR NO.

2. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU DO OR YOU DON’T, WHO WOULD YOU SAY IS 311’s OPPOSITE?? WHAT BAND?

…..I’ve started doing some volunteer work at a no-kill animal shelter in Merriam the past couple months……

…..and I received word of this….

Apparently their shelters were broken into the other night… None of the animals were harmed, but now they need thousands of dollars of repairs…. Please click the link, it’s not just financial support they’ll be needing… If you’re handy in general, you can be of help…..

……I don’t think I need to give you any colorful descriptions of the contempt and repulsion I feel towards the culprits…. Generate your own, and let that anxious energy of disgust propel you into motion, not weigh you down towards resignation…. Thank you…..

…there’s the book I’m currently reading… I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I’d like, not novels anyway… Octavia Butler was a science fiction writer who destroyed stereotypes in a lot of ways, mostly for writing about themes most SF writers didn’t…. Like women’s issues… Like race… Like class… It was less about aliens and spaceships and technology, and more about, well, US…

I strongly recommend it… Click on the link, read about the book “Parable of the Talents”, and read about Butler, who will likely peak your interest… The book is an imagining of our culture in the future, after it’d disintegrated and was then taken over by Christian fundamentalists… Think the Jesus Taliban…

And please, if you MUST read Palin’s books, at least don’t buy your own copy…. Go to the freakin’ library….

……and I can’t resist…… If we’re gonna call one of the most stereotypically-slow-Midwestern towns by a new name, a name that comes with global, worldly connotations, I’m sure we could do the same for the rest of the metro…… I will reward from the Prize Kitchen judiciously the best entries… And of course, peer pressure counts… The peers being you, of course…

I’ll try to get it started… Liberty, for whatever reason, has always seemed to me to be the whitest town in the metro… The most white-bread/midwestern city in the metro… Let’s rename it Harlem for a month… Or maybe Peking…

…I do have a couple of go-to suppliers for lyrics that are tweet-worthy, that are fit for Facebook status-updates… Peter Murhpy, and The Archers of Loaf, both of whom you should check out… But the one band I’ve gone on and on about is Radiohead, and there was actually a time that I used a line of theirs as my e-mail signature…

Tell ya what… Gimme the line, I’ll give you a romp thru the Prize Kitchen…

So… I’m just looking at this here Buzz site the other day, I think I was posting a blog… And up there in the upper-right hand corner, where it always is, there’s my face… And where “What the Hell was that?” USUALLY is, there’s an old tweet about The Belated’s next show… How’d THAT get there??!?!

Well apparently that little area (which I actually used to update, but there’s only so many minutes in an hour) is now synched up with all our Twitters, depending who’s on-air at the time… So…….. I guess I gotta stop neglecting my Twitter…

I figured I’d do it my way, without completely succumbing to a trend I’m not all that fond of… Instead of it being all about ME, I will follow one of you… I am not currently following a single person on Twitter… Tell ya what… I will follow one of you a week… Visit with me on-air, and all that… E-mail me… We’ll get it done… And maybe make something new… A new social networking paradigm… MyTwitFace…

….somewhere along the line, it became standard marketing procedure to have pictures of healthy, happy people paired with your product at all times… Preferrably, they should appear to have been told the funniest joke ever, and are just now getting back their breath…

I thought it’d be interesting to visit some websites, grab some of their images, and see how close you could come to correctly guessing what company wanted to use these images to put you at ease that they, too, are always up for a good time:

….that item on your left?? It’s worth $1 million as of yesterday… It was the first time Superman ever appeared… ANYWHERE… It’s an item that is increasing in value over time… And it’s not just because of inflation…

While I did read comics for a short time in the mid-80s, I NEVER had a comic book that valuable… BUT… I still do have a banged-up C3PO from 1977, and Chewbacca too… I SHOULD have kept my old Atari games, with their packaging and their instruction booklets…

To be fair, I wasn’t even 10 years old at the time… And my parents weren’t exactly instructive on how to make money… Still, I am kicking myself for not trusting in the simple fact that the future is by definition a scary place, and I should’ve prepared better… I should’ve Mario and Luigi and Pitfall Harry… Maybe that way I also coulda made a million bucks and not have had to worry about anything else……….. ….I talked to the singer/pianist from the Crash Kings today…… It’s a hard trick to pull off, being in a rock band WITHOUT a guitar player… But these guys do it convincingly, and as a guy who used to try to play hard rock songs on the piano, I was real curious to talk to them… Check out the conversation below, and make sure you watch the thoroughly badass video, where Tony shows you just how this hard-rock-without-guitars thing happens……..
