I told her that I thought it looked like Fudgie the Whale. I explained that along with Cookie Puss and Lollapalooza (yep, that’s where it came from!), Fudgie was a mascot/product of Carvel, an East Coast ice cream chain. And that he was loved by all, young and old. She responds with “Apparently Fudgie didn’t know he was loved by all. I’m pretty sure he thinks he has no friends.” And then this pic:

This kinda upset me. My response: “THAT is a Fudgie imposter. Or he was given Botox. That ain’t the Fudgie me and my friend Perry Farrell grew up with!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am heartbroken. This will not do.”

I know for a fact that KC natives had to grow up without Carvel. Here’s some of what you missed:

Someone had called a couple weeks back suggesting that I do Shortest Songs for a Friday Theme Day, since February is the shortest month… I’d done something kinda like that a few years back, so I decided this time I’d really make it a challenge, and try to play 30 songs in a single hour, without repeating artists (Green Day/Ramones et al have a LOT of short songs)… Also, I could NOT subtract the total time for commercials… Here’s how it went:

…so I came close… IF I’d been allowed to subtract the commercial time, easy, I probably could’ve gotten 31 or 32 in… And I didn’t wanna play little 30 or 40 second joke-songs by punk bands, either… 30 SONGS… I did my best, only talked over music and cut a couple songs early instead of letting the last note run out, etc…

Well they SAID they’d be here awhile…

Been 4 years since the last 311 Album… That’s an eternity for them… But I think even they realized they’d kinda hit the wall last time out… So they brought in Bob Rock to produce their new album… He’s probably best known for producing Metallica in the 90s… So if nothing else, he’s a guy that can give a band a makeover… Check out some of the in-studio progress below:
